Transformation: Clay to Pot and Edge to Water
Formerly we were known as River's Edge Pottery but in order to secure a domain name and create this website, it was necessary to change the name to River Water Pottery. Same river. Same pottery.

Turn Around and They're Thrown
Any item that's on the website can be glazed with any of the glazes that are on the website. It's the turnaround time that's tricky. It usually takes a 2-4 week turnaround for pieces that have to be thrown or hand built, dried (about 2 days if it's sunny and hot and about 1-2 weeks when it's rainy and cold), bisque fired, glazed, and then glaze fired. Throwing (they call it "turning" on the East Coast) is the fastest part and, for me, the most enjoyable. As a dear friend and mentor potter puts it: "The mound of clay turns on the rotating wheel head and my hands seem to be in the realm of a sorcerer. As if by magic, the clay rises and transforms itself into a cylinder that will become a vase or a mug or a bowl or a teapot."
Meanwhile the galleries and stores listed on this website have many items already available so we hope you'll find something that works for you if you need it right away.

Bread Bowl Adventures
The Perfect Boutique was a great success. It was fun to see so many friends and loyal customers. Bread Bowls were the biggest sellers - probably because we had samples of Cheddar herb, Beer Bread, and Lemon Yogurt Cake available. People seem to love the idea of baking bread right in the bowl and then serving out of it too. The Bread Bowl Cookbook contains recipes for English Cottage Loaf (whole wheat), Beer Bread, Cheddar Herb Bread, Cranberry Pumpkin Bread, Zucchini Bread, Cabernet Walnut Bread, Orange Bread, and the dangerous one: Lemon Yogurt Cake. Don't make the lemon one unless you have others on hand to help you eat it. Otherwise - and I speak from experience - you may eat it all yourself. Most of the breads don't require yeast or kneading. The recipes are fast and easy (Beer Bread only has three ingredients: flour, sugar, and beer) and our friend Margo who was helping with the sale on the first day sold one of the bowls to a young man when she told him he would be a big hit with the ladies because he could bake bread.
